CyberPower GX950UC Review

About a decade ago, in my introduction for the QNAP TVS-463 review, I talked about how my friend said the three basic needs of humans are "food, electricity, and internet". Since it has been over a decade since I asked someone university-age that question, I asked a bunch of university students the same question. Surprisingly, they all got "food, clothing, and shelter" correctly. But exactly how wrong is saying "food, electricity, and internet" in 2026? I was in the office a few months ago when the power in our tower went out, which took out the Wi-Fi as well. With the power and internal network inaccessible, we all decided to just go home, since nothing can be done anyway. The power outage also caused the food vendors in our building to close early, so there is that. I do not believe it is incorrect to say the world basically grinds to a halt when electricity is out, and hence I have a BLUETTI Elite 200 V2 2kWh power station connected to my network equipment at my house to ensure my router, modem, switch, NAS, Windows server, and video surveillance equipment stays online regardless of what is going on in the power grid for up to 12 hours. For my desktop, however, I do not need something that intense. A power station is simply too expensive and chunky, not to mention I do not want to hear a fan running. Furthermore, full-blown power outages lasting more than a few minutes are extremely unlikely. How do we deal with power interruptions then? Well, there is always the good old UPS. Today, we have the CyberPower GX950UC, an uninterruptible power supply aimed at the enthusiast from a veteran in the field. How well will it do the job? Read on to find out!

Our review unit of the CyberPower GX950UC came from a company called CEVA Logistics located in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. The last time I saw anything from CEVA Logistics was over a decade ago, when I reviewed the Western Digital Red Pro WD4001FFSX 4TB. The uninterruptible power supply was sent to us here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada via Purolator Ground. The medium-sized brown corrugated cardboard box arrived in excellent condition for our review today.

The retail packaging of the CyberPower GX950UC has a predominantly black color scheme contrasted by white text. At the top left corner, you will find CyberPower's logo. This is followed by the product description, "GX Series Slimline Battery Backup", and the line "Power and Protection". A photo of the UPS in three-quarter view is on the right. Interestingly, the model number, GX950UC, is printed in tiny font in the top right corner. Across the bottom, we have an array of badges highlighting its key specifications, including its seven outlets, 890J protection, 15W USB Type-C, 2.4A USB Type-A, $125K connected equipment guarantee, and 3-year limited warranty. More information about the product and its specifications are found at the bottom of the box.
