One of the most challenging parts in our battery of SSD benchmarks is the PCMark 8 Storage Consistency Test. Nowadays, many drives are well optimized for high benchmark scores when they are empty, but what separates the professional players from the amateurs is how it stands up to a truly punishing workload. PCMark 8's Storage Consistency Test is designed exactly for this purpose. Going through five phases -- precondition, degradation, steady state, recovery, and clean up -- to extend beyond real world application simulations, this benchmark takes just over two days to complete, but the results are revealing of an SSD's true capabilities. The Crucial BX300 did quite well against the two other drives on this list. As you can see around the middle on the above graph, the Crucial BX300 240GB had quite consistent results throughout the entire benchmark. The second pass revealed some dips during the recovery phase, but the numbers bounced back toward the end of the second pass.
