About PCMark Vantage

PCMark Vantage is a PC benchmark suite designed for Windows Vista offering one-click simplicity for casual users and detailed, professional grade testing for industry, press and enthusiasts.

A PCMark score is a measure of your computer’s performance across a variety of common tasks such as viewing and editing photos, video, music and other media, gaming, communications, productivity and security.

From desktops and laptops to workstations and gaming rigs, by comparing your PCMark Vantage score with other similar systems you can find the hardware and software bottlenecks that stop you getting more from your PC.

PCMark Vantage is another real-to-life performance application, albeit in a semi-synthetic means. The great thing about standardized tests is anyone can repeat them and get very similar results, given identical hardware. Overall, the results in this case of the Crucial BX300 240GB were quite good. For the most part, the results were higher or just slightly lower than other drives of the same capacity. Basically, each of the results were on the higher end of the range, with some being a bit lower. This fits quite nicely with most of the synthetic tests we ran. The overall rating sat below the Crucial BX100 500GB by quite a bit, but the BX300 was closer with the Crucial MX300 750GB. For the Windows Defender and photo import tests, the BX300 was left behind by both the BX100 and the MX300, and it was the same story for video editing. When it came to the startup test it beat out the BX100 and MX300. However, for Windows Media Center, it was again easily beaten by both the other drives. To fight back though, the BX300 beat both the other drives in application loading and the MX300 in the gaming test. Unfortunately, it lost out again in the Windows Defender test. It mostly stood up to competition, even if the differences were by small margins.
