Crucial P310 2280 1TB Review (Page 10 of 10)

Page 10 - Conclusion

The Crucial P310 2280 1TB is a M.2 2280 version of the P310 2230. Was this a necessary addition to Crucial's portfolio, and how did it compare against other mainstream solid state drives? With the discontinuation of the Crucial P5 Plus, the P310 series is certainly a welcomed addition, although it is not a direct replacement given the P5 Plus is a DRAM-equipped SSD with TLC flash memory, whereas the P310 is DRAM-less with QLC ICs. In terms of linear read performance, the P310 2280 is top notch. Its linear write speed is also reasonably fast. In all of the linear read and write tests, the P310 2280 compared favorably against SSDs in its class like the Corsair MP600 Elite, Netac NV7000-Q, and WD_BLACK SN770. We also saw good real world results in PCMark 10, appropriate for its performance class as a mainstream drive. I also like the P310's native full drive encryption support and 5-year warranty. However, the P310's medium workload results came in at the lower end, as evidenced by our Crystal Disk Mark's RND4K numbers and PassMark PerformanceTest 10's Advanced Disk Test graphs. Its 3DMark Storage Benchmark figures were also below average, barely beating out the Corsair MP600 Elite, and not even close to the WD_BLACK SN770 and Netac NV7000-Q. However, the P310's biggest limitation, by far, is its write endurance with the QLC NAND IC. 220TBW is very low write endurance and is not even close to the competition. The 1TB version of the MP600 Elite is 600TBW, while the SN770 and NV7000-Q are rated at 600TBW and 640TBW, respectively. For about $85 at press time, the Crucial P310 2280 1TB costs at least $10 more than all three SSDs referenced. The P310 2280 1TB has competitive linear read and write performance, but if you are looking for significantly better write endurance and higher medium workload speed, other products from Corsair, Netac, and Western Digital are available at a lower price.

Crucial provided this product to APH Networks for the purpose of evaluation.

Since April 30, 2007, Number Ratings have been dropped for all CPUs, motherboards, RAM, SSD/HDDs, and graphics cards. This is to ensure the most appropriate ratings are reflected without the inherent limits of using numbers. Everything else will continue using the Number Rating System.

The Crucial P310 2280 1TB is a mainstream SSD with solid linear read and write performance, but there is room for improvement in its medium workload performance, write endurance, and price compared to the competition.
