Crucial X8 2TB Review (Page 7 of 8)

About HD Tune Pro 5.70

HD Tune is a hard disk utility with many functions. It can be used to measure the drive's performance, scan for errors, check the health status (S.M.A.R.T.), securely erase all data and much more.

Unfortunately, HD Tune does not generate any fancy independent graph outputs in particular, so I just took a screenshot of the program. The Crucial X8 2TB remained very flat on average. It differed slightly in magnitude than HD Tach -- probably due to testing algorithms used -- but its performance characteristics were identical in practice. Other than that, the results were very good across the range; the recorded access time was very low as we would expect from an external solid state drive. The X8 2TB posted an average of 285.5MB/s for its sequential read speed, which is, again, measurably slower than the Crucial X8 1TB at 327.5MB/s and Rugged SSD 1TB at 367.3MB/s. In fact, it is closer to the Crucial X6 2TB's 263.4MB/s than the NVMe-based drives mentioned. The Crucial X8 2TB's tested latency was virtually identical to AIDA64 and HD Tach at 0.096 ms. Do keep in mind the discussion we had on the previous page, as it still applies here.
