Crucial X8 2TB Review (Page 8 of 8)

Page 8 - Conclusion

When the original Crucial X8 came out last year, we were limited to only 1TB of storage capacity, with the word "only" used very loosely. Fast forward to today, the company doubled its maximum capacity to 2TB. But has the performance changed? For the most part, it remained the same, and that is not a bad thing. The Crucial X8 2TB still delivers excellent read and write performance of up to 1050MB/s, which is as awesome as it is in 2020 as it was in 2019. Of course, we did see some variance in speed depending on the test compared to the 1TB model, but one being a little faster here and another being a little faster there should not translate to any noticeable change in the real world. What you will still get besides the speed in the X8, of course, is the solid aluminum enclosure that is slim enough to easily fit anywhere. Seriously, it is strong and flexes to nothing. The Crucial X8 2TB also comes with a 3-year warranty for extra peace of mind, and the USB Type-C cable has a detachable Type-A adapter for maximum compatibility. There are only a few things I would say the Crucial X8 2TB can improve on, and these are no different than the original 1TB model. First, include a longer cable or a longer second cable. Second, an activity LED will be helpful to see its operational status. Third, having it officially IP certified will bring more confidence to its durability. For about $250 at press time, the Crucial X8 2TB is very well-priced. A 2TB version of the Crucial P1 is about $225 at press time, which means the X8 2TB's aluminum enclosure commands a price premium of only $25. You get a specially designed OEM enclosure and custom firmware to go, which, at the price you can get it for, is hard to beat.
