Kingston NV3 2TB Review

Have you ever gone so far down a conversation that you wonder how you even got to a certain point? A couple of months back, I was talking with a group of friends about things that might have a nice mouthfeel but a terrible taste. One item I was not too sure about was petroleum jelly. I have often used it to keep my lips from drying out, but did not remember what it tasted like. However, my friend said he had tasted petroleum jelly because sometimes he would put it up his nose to stop his nose from bleeding. Once these words left his mouth, our group stared at him with many questions. For one, why would anyone put Vaseline in their nose to stop a bloody nostril? Secondly, how much is going up the nose that you can taste it? Finally, what does it taste like? These were the questions swarming in my head while everyone was laughing with wonder. After some research, it seems like this is a useful way to keep your nose from drying out. The smell of petroleum jelly is enough to make me not want to try to taste it, even if the texture seems interesting. On the other hand, if there is something I want to keep tasting or observing, it is the continued lowering of prices in technology. Today, we have the Kingston NV3 2TB, a PCIe Gen 4x4 drive that seems to be part of this trend. We have seen many drives that continue to push the price envelope down, but today we have one that also comes in a capacity larger than 1TB. How will the NV3 do in our tests, and does it offer an exceptional balance of price to performance? Let us read on to find out!

Today's review unit of the Kingston NV3 2TB arrived from Kingston's offices in Fountain Valley, California, USA. Traveling with FedEx and their standard Ground service, this small box arrived in excellent condition with tape sealing its edges to prevent any tampering from happening. This box came to our APH Networks location in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Otherwise, the product inside was packaged in another padded envelope to prevent any damage while being shipped.

Out of the box and the envelope, the Kingston NV3 2TB comes in little packaging, with two layers of cardboard sandwiching a plastic shell. The front of the package shows the product name and capacity as well as the fact it can support speeds up to 6000MB/s read. Underneath, the drive is displayed for all to see followed by the Kingston logo. On the bottom corner, there is a three-year warranty badge, which is short. Most drives, even in this budget price territory, are covered by the manufacturer for five years. Inside this package is purely the SSD, although this is not too surprising.
