About HD Tach 3.0.1.0
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

After giving the LaCie Mobile SSD 500GB a clean format and everything is correct, I fired it up for some testing in HD Tach. While HD Tach is more of a drag race than a clear indication of real life performance and has been around for a really long time, it is an excellent storage performance reference among removable storage drives and has been our favorite benchmark long before internal hard drives even cracked the 50MB/s mark. From that above, I was able to pull a very good 233.9MB/s average. This was very close to the performance-oriented Patriot Supersonic Rage 2 256GB and Patriot Supersonic Magnum 2 256GB USB 3.0 flash drives. As you can see in our screenshot above, the tested latency was 0.2 ms, which is the same as our AIDA64 results on Page 3 of this review. Once again, I am very happy with the performance LaCie Mobile SSD 500GB.
