About HD Tach 3.0.1.0

HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

As mentioned in other storage reviews here at APH Networks, HD Tach takes a “drag-race” approach to evaluating drive performance, but it still provides valuable insight into how good a drive is compared to the next. As we can see in the screenshot above, the average read speed of the Silicon Power Marvel M70 64GB is 189.1 MB/s. This rate is pretty good for a USB 3.0 flash drive and still, you can see almost a flat line except at the beginning, where it represents some files already on the drive that came from the factory. Compared against the ADATA DashDrive Elite UE700 64GB and Patriot Supersonic Rage XT 32GB, the results are very similar. The burst speed is indicated as 178.7 MB/s, but this should not make a difference in real life at all. The tested latency is 0.7ms, which is consistent with out AIDA64 results. Finally, we are on to our last benchmark, HD Tune Pro.
