LaCie Rugged SSD 1TB Review (Page 6 of 8)

Page 6 - Benchmark: HD Tach

About HD Tach

HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

After giving the LaCie Rugged SSD 1TB a clean format and everything is correct, I fired it up for some testing in HD Tach. While HD Tach is more of a drag race than a clear indication of real life performance and has been around for a really long time, it is an excellent storage performance reference among removable storage drives and has been our favorite benchmark long before internal hard drives even cracked the 50MB/s mark. From that above, I was able to pull an excellent 394.1MB/s average. This figure is a bit faster than the Crucial X8 1TB at 348.4MB/s and considerably faster than the LaCie Mobile SSD 500GB at 233.9MB/s. The Rugged SSD also dominated the performance-oriented USB flash drives like the Patriot Supersonic Rage 2 256GB at 216.5MB/s and Patriot Supersonic Magnum 2 256GB at 239.0MB/s. As you can see in our screenshot above, the tested latency was 0.1 ms, which is the same as our AIDA64 results on Page 3 of this review. Once again, I am very happy with the performance LaCie Rugged SSD 1TB.
