If there is one thing I learned during my trip to Hawaii, it would be to never underestimate nature and always be prepared. Is the LaCie Rugged SSD STHR1000800 1TB prepared to handle everything life has to throw at it? Its IP67 certification tells a good portion of the story: It is both waterproof and dust-proof. Beyond that, you can drop it and let it run over by a car and it will still survive. If you lose it in any place where it could be hard to locate, its bright orange rubber exterior is both functional and practical. But being prepared goes beyond good looks, good build quality, and good durability. Being prepared also covers how it actually performs when connected to your computer. The FireCuda 510 NVMe SSD that resides within offers exceptional performance over its USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C interface according to our benchmarks. In fact, the Rugged SSD 1TB is even faster than the Crucial X8 1TB in most tests, and the X8 was our previous speed king. Being prepared also has one more factor though. Should anything go wrong, the Rugged SSD 1TB comes with a 5-year warranty with Seagate's excellent Rescue Data Recovery Services. Needless to say, the LaCie Rugged SSD 1TB is the full package of being prepared in its physical design, performance, and warranty. My only suggestion is to include longer cables, or more preferably, include more cables of various lengths. At the end of the day, there is just one thing you have to be prepared for if you want to pick up one of these, and that would be the price. These go for about $300 at press time. But if what you do calls for one, then I would say the LaCie Rugged SSD 1TB is really the best you can buy for everything life has to throw at it.
