About HD Tach 3.0.1.0

HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

Unlike our previous benchmarks, HD Tach 3.0.1.0 takes a “drag-race” approach to testing storage performance, and it provides some valuable insight in comparing between different drives. From the graph above, you can see we are able to pull an average sequential read of 163.1MB/s; a number much closer to the results from AIDA64. In comparison with our other two Patriot drives, we were able to get 231.8MB/s from the Supersonic Magnum 64GB and 179.0MB/s from the Supersonic Rage XT 32GB. As well, the more recently reviewed Kingston DataTraveler Locker+ G3 32GB was pulling an average read of 136.8MB/s, though that was an encrypted drive. This really is not surprising, considering that the Patriot Stellar 64GB is not built with speed in mind, but rather for mobile purposes. I have said this before, but the fact that they are able to pack decent performance into such a small package is very commendable.
